Geréby family

The previous name of the family was Gremsperger. They were granted a coat of arms and the name was changed to Geréby with the title of nobility Ötömösi on October 8th, 1840. At that time, the Ötömösi Geréby family moved to Pest-Pilis-Solt-Kiskun county.

Gyula Ötömösi Geréby founded the Geréby Manor in Lajosmizse. He was a prestigious agronomist and a patron of the poor, and he established an internationally renowned stud farm on the property. As a qualified economist, he turned it into a model farm.

The mansion, which served as the center of the farm and the family's residence, was built at the end of the 1800s by Sir Geréby. The building itself is in eclectic style, dominated by mainly neo-Baroque and classical elements.

Gyula Geréby died in 1918 at the age of 51, and his wife died in 1941 at the age of 65. They are both buried in the cemetery of Lajosmizse. However, their daughter Katinka emigrated to Argentina, where she died in 1989.
